Homemade Caramel Sauce

My dear friend is a fantastic home barista and we've had the best time experimenting with fun and easy recipes to up the home coffee game. This caramel sauce is so delicious, and much better than what you may have at a coffee shop chain ;)

  • 1 cup of white sugar

  • 1/4 cup of water

Add the water and sugar to a sauce pan and heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and comes to a boil. Allow the sugar and water to boil for about 5-7 minutes undisturbed. After a few minutes the sugar will begin to darken. It happens fast so don't walk away! Allow it to bubble until it just turns an amber color (about another 5 minutes), swirling intermittently.

  • Add 6 tablespoons of grass-fed butter (Kerrygold) to the boiling mixture and once the butter has melted, turn off the heat.

  • Pour in 1/2 cup of heavy cream, 1 teaspoon of vanilla and a pinch of salt. Whisk vigorously at this point until the caramel is smooth. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. It can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a month.
