Bloodshot Brown Butter Sugar Cookies

Updated: Dec 9, 2022

Happy Halloween Month y'all! Here's a cute Halloween treat idea. Delicious and soft brown-butter sugar cookies are just to die for... They're so good on their own if you want to leave off the decoration. They are irresistibly soft with plenty of sweetness balanced out by a little bit of salt AND a perfectly crackled top. You'll be amazed at how easy they are.

Ingredients:

1 Cup of sugar

1 stick of unsalted butter- Browned and cooled.

2 tablespoons of milk

1 egg

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 Cups of AP flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

Yields 12 cookies.

Preheat oven to 375 Degrees

Prepare 2 sheet pans for baking

Whisk together the sugar, brown butter, egg, milk and vanilla. In a small separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt. Incorporate the flour mixture into the sugar mixture and mix until a dough is formed.

Portion out golfball sized rounds of dough and roll into a ball. Place on cookie sheet. Using the back of a round measuring spoon, make an indentation in the middle of each cookie ball.

Bake for about 12-15 minutes or just until the edges begin to turn golden brown. Let cool while you prepare the chocolate decoration.

For the Swirly blue Bloodshot eyes:

1/2 Cup of white chocolate chips or melting chocolate.

Blue and Red food coloring

1/4 Cup of confectioners sugar.

3 Tablespoons of milk

Melt white chocolate chips the microwave according to package instructions.

Using a small spoon, drizzle the warm chocolate in to the center wells of each cookie.

Drop one drop of blue food coloring into the white chocolate well. Using a toothpick, swirl the blue food coloring just slightly to get the deep-blue eye effect.

In a small bowl, mix together the milk and confectioners sugar until you get a thin icing that drizzles from the tip of a spoon. Add 4 drops of red food coloring or more until you get the desired shade of red. Dip a spoon into the red icing and let it drizzle from the tip onto the cookie. Try to follow the natural cracks of the sugar cookie to get the vein effect.

Let icing and chocolate set and enjoy watching everyone's lips turn blue when they eat one. :D
